Commands - How To Control Your Target
Many commands allow you to adjust the target device for specific situations. Here are some examples:
- You only want to see certain types of data (IM, SMS, Bookmarks)
- You may want to minimise data charges for device that is roaming
- Adjust the time taken for data to arrive at the portal
- Remotely invoke features like Remcam, Recording
- Change the phone numbers that are intercepted
- Lots more reasons...
To make the most of commands, please read the information below.
Important Note: Before using commands, you should understand
How Commands Are Sent
All commands and program configurations can be sent from your Dashboard login, in the Device Settings area.
Dashboard commands are delivered over the Internet; they are invisible but not delivered immediately. These commands can be seen in your Dashboard "Pending CMDs" section, waiting to sync with the phone the next time it connects to upload your data. This schedule is set by the Delivery Timer settings. The default setting for Delivery is once per hour or at every 10 captured events. The actual time taken for Dashboard commands to sync with the Target phone is therefore controlled by the Delivery Timer setting. You can change this setting under your Dashboard login, at Device Settings / Device Controls / Change Application Settings.
Commands may also be sent manually by SMS, direct from your mobile to the Target phone. SMS commands are also not visible on the Target (except for Blackberry), but are unlike Dashboard commands in that SMS commands are executed immediately.
SMS is preferred for immediate delivery of the more time critical commands, as discussed below.
Time Critical Commands
Here is a list of the more time critical commands;
- Ambient Recording
- Remote Camera
- Get Current Location
- Activate
- Deactivate
- Uninstall
- Send Immediate
- Restart Device
These commands should be sent manually by SMS for immediate delivery, from any mobile phone direct to the Target phone as shown in the Command Reference section, below.
The rest of the commands are not as time sensitive and may be sent from the Dashboard via the Internet, to sync when the phone next connects to the server. However if you would like any command to be processed immediately, you can also send it from any mobile phone to the Target by using the table in the Command Reference section below.
Command Reference
The list below shows all available commands, and how to send manually by SMS from your own mobile phone. If you are experiencing problems with the Internet connection or need to troubleshoot something, sending SMS commands manually is a great way to verify the command was received and processed by the Target.
Note that all commands must be sent exactly as shown, including the <, *, # and > symbols, without spaces. Make sure to get your activation code correct. You can find your activation code using the ACCOUNT menu.
